Interpreting the Major Arcana

The Major Arcana of the tarot deck consists of 22 cards, and each card has a specific meaning and symbolism associated with it. The following is a brief explanation of each card and some tips on how to interpret them 

 

The Fool: Represents new beginnings, spontaneity, and taking a leap of faith. It can also indicate a lack of caution or a tendency to take unnecessary risks.


The Magician: Symbolizes creativity, resourcefulness, and the power of transformation. It can also indicate that the person is in a position of power or influence, or that they have the ability to manifest their desires.  

                        
The High Priestess: Represents intuition, inner wisdom, and the unconscious mind. It can also indicate that the person needs to trust their instincts and listen to their inner voice.


The Empress: Symbolizes motherhood, fertility, and the abundance of nature. It can also indicate that the person is feeling nurtured and supported, or that they are in a position of authority.


The Emperor: Represents authority, structure, and stability. It can also indicate that the person is feeling in control and confident, or that they need to assert themselves more.


The Hierophant: Symbolizes tradition, religion, and spiritual guidance. It can also indicate that the person needs to seek guidance or wisdom from a higher power.


The Lovers: Represents love, commitment, and the balance of masculine and feminine energies. It can also indicate that the person is facing a significant choice or decision related to their relationships.


The Chariot: Symbolizes determination, willpower, and the triumph of the individual will over adversity. It can also indicate that the person is facing a challenge or conflict, but has the strength to overcome it.


Strength: Represents inner strength, courage, and compassion. It can also indicate that the person is facing a difficult situation but has the fortitude to overcome it.


The Hermit: Symbolizes introspection, solitude, and the search for inner truth. It can also indicate that the person needs time alone to reflect and gain insight.


The Wheel of Fortune: Represents the cyclical nature of life, the ups and downs of fate, and the idea of “what goes around comes around”. It can also indicate that the person is experiencing good luck or a positive change in their life.


Justice: Represents fairness, balance, and the idea of “what you give is what you get”. It can also indicate that the person is experiencing a sense of balance and harmony in their life or is facing a decision that requires them to weigh the pros and cons.


The Hanged Man: Symbolizes sacrifice, patience, and letting go of the old in order to make room for the new. It can also indicate that the person needs to step back and gain a new perspective on a situation.


Death: Represents transformation, rebirth and the end of a cycle. it doesn't always mean physical death.


Temperance: Symbolizes balance, harmony, and moderation. It can also indicate that the person needs to find balance in their life, or that they are experiencing a sense of stability and harmony.


The Devil: Represents materialism, temptation, and the darker side of human nature. It can also indicate that the person is feeling trapped or controlled by their desires or possessions.


The Tower: Symbolizes sudden change, upheaval, and the collapse of the old order. It can indicate that the person is facing a chaotic or destructive event, or that they are about to experience a major transformation. The Tower card can indicate that the person is about to go through a difficult but necessary change, it also suggests that some of the old foundations are going to crumble down and something new will arise. This card is also linked to shaking things up in a sudden and unexpected way. However, The Tower is often considered as a negative card, it can bring change, but can be difficult and painful.


The Star: Represents hope, inspiration, and the idea that everything happens for a reason. It can also indicate that the person is feeling a sense of optimism and that things are looking up.


The Moon: Symbolizes emotions, intuition, and the subconscious. It can also indicate that the person is feeling a heightened sense of intuition or that they need to pay attention to their dreams and emotions.


The Sun: Represents vitality, success, and the idea that good things come to those who work hard. It can also indicate that the person is feeling a sense of accomplishment or that good things are on the horizon.


Judgement: Represents judgement, rebirth and the power of redemption. It can also indicate that the person is facing a judgement or decision or is in the process of being reborn or starting anew.


The World: Symbolizes completion, wholeness, and the achievement of one's goals. It can also indicate that the person is feeling a sense of accomplishment or that they have reached the end of a journey.
